Join us for an evening of chilled soulful, mellow, swinging jazz in the style of Ella Fitzgerald & Joe Pass, Julie London & Barney Kessel, Anita O’Day & Oscar Peterson on with singer and song writer Jo Harrop on Friday 2 November with Guitarist Harry Sankey and Bassist Adam King!
Jo Harrop is a jazz singer who has a refined mellow sound evoking the greats such as Anita O’Day, Nina Simone, & Sarah Vaughn, and has graced many prestigious stages and studios around the UK & Europe, including the Royal Albert Hall, The Sage, The 606 Club, Jazz Café, Pizza Express Jazz Club, Twickenham Jazz, The Savoy, as well as clubs in Paris, Rome, Switzerland & Dubai. It has been said that Jo has the same ability as Sinatra & Ella to ‘get inside of a song’ and make it her own.
Before finding herself on the jazz scene, Jo started off her career as a singer/songwriter, and also provided backing vocals for international stars, such as, Leanne Rimes, Enrique Iglesias and Neil Diamond, as well as writing and recording a song for Acoustic Alchemy’s album “Radio Contact”.
More recently Jo recorded “That’s What Friends Are For” on harmonica player Mark Felthams album. She supported The Blind Boys Of Alabama, and her music has been featured on both Courtney Pine & Huey Morgans BBC Radio shows, and also Jazz FM, BBC London, BBC Humberside, Beverly FM. Howard Blake OBE is also a fan of Jo’s voice.
Here are what they say about Jo's music.
"No worries here, this girl was born to sing jazz! Jo has all the emotional warmth and sensibility to melt the chilliest of hearts, and her laid back charm implies the right sort of tact she naturally has for her engaging take on soul jazz. Undeniable star quality"
Blues & Soul Magazine
“A singing sensation”.... Her voice is amazing – think Islay whisky, dark porter or tannin-rich red wine –deep, the lissome lady is a class act", Bebop Spoken Here Blog
