Join us for an evening of acoustic pop music with Verity Burcombe, Best Performer of Debut Open Music Programme 2018!

Verity has a wide-ranging interest in various styles of music. On this evening Verity will be performing covers from the early 1970s through to the modern day, with an emphasis on indie with soul and easy listening influences. For many songs, she will accompany herself on the piano but for others she will be joined by her brother, Alex, who is a talented, developing self-styled guitarist with a similar broad taste in musical styles.

About Verity

Born in Croydon in 2001, Verity quickly found her voice and by the age of 5 was regularly singing solos with her local Stagecoach group. She subsequently had vocal lessons with Sarah Joyce, Erin O’Hanlon and most recently, Tom Marandola. She has won a variety of singing awards in genres ranging from pure classical to rock and pop: this included the Mayor’s Trophy at the Croydon. Performing Arts Festival and most recently, the Belgian Brasserie’s “Debut Music Programme” in 2018.

For the last two years, Verity has been a student at the Purcell School for Young Musicians in Hertfordshire where her principal study has been the bassoon, closely followed by the piano and voice. Despite not being a first study singer, she has frequently been the vocalist of choice for studio recordings of exam compositions due to the quality of her voice and her ability to master songs quickly.

In September, Verity continues her education at the Guildhall School of Music, where alongside her studies on the bassoon and piano, she hopes to link with fellow musicians to form a gig band with local performances. Watch this space!
